  • First gained fame in Scotland as half of the camp-comedy duo Vic and Barry, with longtime friend Forbes Masson; the pair went on to co-star the mid-'90s Britcom The High Life.
  • Made his Broadway debut with an acclaimed turn as the Emcee in a 1998 production of Cabaret.
  • Directed his first feature film, indie drama The Anniversary Party, in 2001.
  • Raised his U.S. profile with appearances in several early-'00s blockbusters, including the Spy Kids trilogy (as Fegan Floop) and X2: X-Men United (as Nightcrawler).
