  • A passionate believer in higher education, he gave each of his children names that began with the letter "E" standing for "excellence."
  • Early in his career, he was one of the most influential stand-up comedians of all time; his 1986 concert at Radio City Music Hall broke the venue's attendance record.
  • Authored many books, including the two bestsellers: Fatherhood (1986) and Time Flies (1988).
  • The Cosby Show was TV's biggest hit in the '80s (it was No. 1 from 1985-89) and almost single-handedly revived the sitcom genre.
