Bob Fosse Fast Facts:
Took dance classes at age 8; by age 12 was part of the touring team The Riff Brothers.
Innovative and signature choreography style is known for its sensual and angular movements, as well as the use of props such as chairs, canes and bowler hats.
Repeatedly asked to tone down his work; became a director in 1959 in order to gain control of his creations.
Married three times---each woman a dancer.
Was known as a workaholic, a heavy drinker, a chain smoker and lover of many women.
Though separated for 15 years from third wife Gwen Verdon, they never divorced and continued working together.
Used the experience of his heart attack as the basis for his semiautobiographical fantasy musical
All That Jazz
