Brian Cox Fast Facts:
  • At age 15, he dropped out of school and took a job running errands and mopping the stage at the Dundee Repertory Theater.
  • Won two Olivier Awards for Best Actor for his performances in the London productions of 1984's Rat in the Skull and 1989's Titus Andronicus.
  • Played Hannibal Lecter in Michael Mann's Manhunter (1986). Five years later, Anthony Hopkins assumed the role in The Silence of the Lambs and ultimately won an Oscar.
  • In 1990, he went on tour with the Royal National Theatre and was in simultaneous stage productions of King Lear and Richard III. Wrote a memoir of his busy year called The Lear Diaries, which was published in 1993.
