Cameron Crowe Fast Facts:

Skipped grades in school and graduated at age 15.
Got his start as a writer when he was hired by Rolling Stone magazine as a 15-year-old; his experieces were the basis for Almost Famous, a 2000 comedy-drama for which he won an Oscar.
His book Conversations With Wilder (1999) is a collection of interviews he did with his hero, writer-director Billy Wilder.
Posed as a student at a southern California high school at age 22 to write 1981's Fast Times at Ridgemont High, a non-fiction book that was the basis for the movie of the same name (Crowe also wrote the screenplay).
His 2001 film, Vanilla Sky, featured a cameo by Steven Spielberg; Crowe returned the favor the next year by doing a cameo in Spielberg's Minority Report.
Directed a 2002 Gap commercial that starred Kate Beckinsale and Orlando Bloom.
Wrote liner notes for albums by Peter Frampton, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Gave his mother a role in each of his big-screen productions.
