Frank Darabont Biography

frank darabont
  • Birth Place: Montbeliard, France
  • Date of Birth / Zodiac Sign: 01/28/1959, Aquarius
  • Profession: Director; screenwriter; producer
Frank Darabont Fast Facts:
  • Started out as a writer, penning numerous horror scripts including the 1988 remake of The Blob, the 1989 sequel The Fly II and a couple of Tales from the Crypt episodes.
  • Made his feature-film directorial debut with 1994's The Shawshank Redemption, for which he also wrote the screenplay. Although it made less than $30 million in U.S. theaters, the movie was nominated for a host of Oscars (including one for best film) and became a cult classic after viewers discovered it on cable and video.
  • Nominated for Directors Guild Awards for Best Director in 1994 for Shawshank and in 1999 for The Green Mile.
  • Has turned several Stephen King works into movies, including Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and The Woman in the Room, which was made as a short.
  • Working closely with Steven Spielberg, he wrote a screenplay for the long-gestating Indiana Jones 4, but Spielberg's partner, George Lucas, rejected it. A pity, since Darabont was already quite familiar with the adventurer, having penned scripts for the series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones.
