David Bowie Fast Facts:

Changed his name from Jones to Bowie to avoid being confused with Davy Jones from The Monkees.
One of his teachers in art school was Peter Frampton's father; Frampton later played guitar for Bowie on a concert tour.
Sang "Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth" with Bing Crosby on a 1977 Christmas special.
Penned signature songs for Mott the Hoople ("All the Young Dudes") and Iggy Pop ("Lust for Life," co-written with Pop).
Has parlayed his distinctive speaking voice and icy good looks into a part-time acting career, playing parts in films such as The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), Labyrinth (1986) and The Prestige (2006), and doing a stint on Broadway in The Elephant Man (1980).
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
