Boxed professionally in his youth under the name Kid Crochet. He joked of his ring record: "I won all but 11 of 12 fights."
Claimed he modeled his singing style after Bing Crosby.
Was billed as Dino Martini when he sang with the Ernie McCay Band in the late '30s.
Producer Sam Goldwyn once considered casting Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis as Sky Masterson and Nathan Detroit in the film version of Guys and Dolls.
Has three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for movies, music and TV.
Had a phobia about riding elevators.
