Brian De Palma Fast Facts:

Initially majored in physics at Columbia University before turning his attention to filmmaking.
Made his debut film, the 1960 short Icarus, while at Columbia.
Was fired by Warner Bros. during production of his first studio film, the offbeat 1972 comedy Get to Know Your Rabbit.
Rose to fame with his 1976 adaptation of the Stephen King novel Carrie, which starred Sissy Spacek in an Oscar-nominated turn as the title character.
Often compared to Alfred Hitchcock—and sometimes accused of stealing from him—due to similarities between Hitchcock films and De Palma's thrillers like Sisters (1973) and Dressed to Kill (1980).
