  • Although Ladd appeared in the sitcom Alice, she played a different role than in the 1974 film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, the inspiration for the TV series. Her movie character, Flo, was played by Polly Holliday on the small screen.
  • Has played mother to real-life daughter Laura Dern in four movies: White Lightning (1973), Wild at Heart (1990), Citizen Ruth (1996) and Daddy and Them (2001).
  • Both she and her daughter were nominated for Oscars for their performances in 1991's Rambling Rose, the first time in Academy Award history that a mother and daughter were nominated in the same year.
  • Her first book, Spiraling Through the School of Life: A Mental, Physical and Spiritual Discovery, was published in April 2006.
