Was born premature and weighed four pounds at birth.
Claimed to have lived with comedian Lenny Bruce for a short time in 1963.
Turned down a Fulbright Scholarship to attend the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, choosing instead to train at the Lincoln Center Repertory Theatre.
Made her Broadway debut in the 1962 production of
A Man For All Seasons.
Was signed in 1967 to a six-year contract by filmmaker Otto Preminger, but clashed with him and was able to buy out the contract.
Breakthrough film role was in 1967's
Bonnie and Clyde.
