Emily Watson Fast Facts:

Made feature-film debut in 1996's Breaking the Waves and went on to win Best Actress from the the National Society of Film Critics and the New York Film Critics Circle, as well as Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.
Landed her breakthrough role in Waves after Helena Bonham Carter dropped out of the film.
Won British Supporting Actress of the Year at the London Film Critics Awards for her performance in 2002's Red Dragon; was previously nominated for the award in 1999 for Cradle Will Rock, and for British Actress of the Year in 2000 for The Luzhin Defence.
Turned down the lead in the quirky 2001 romantic comedy Amélie — which was written with her in mind — because she didn't speak French fluently.
Was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Actress for her 2002 performance in Uncle Vanya.
Received an honorary master's degree from her alma mater, Bristol University.
