  • Lost his right eye to a tumor at the age of 3.
  • First appeared on stage in a camp production of The Pirates of Penzance at the age of 12.
  • After finishing school, he unsuccessfully interviewed for a position with the CIA. Spent three years as an efficiency expert for the Connecticut State Budget Bureau.
  • Bing Crosy was the first choice to play Columbo and Lee J. Cobb was also considered before Falk finally landed the role. (The Columbo character first appeared on TV in a 1960 episode of The Chevy Mystery Show, played by Bert Freed.)
  • Surprised his former high-school classmates by attending his 50th reunion in 1995. He had been senior class president.
  • Other than acting, his great artistic passion is drawing.
