Ginger Rogers Fast Facts:

Took the name Rogers from her stepfather, although she was never legally adopted by him.
Was nicknamed "Ginger" by a cousin who could not pronounce "Virginia" correctly.
Won the Texas State Charleston Championships at age 14. The prize was a spot on a traveling vaudeville show.
First collaborated with Fred Astaire in 1933's Flying Down to Rio. The duo would eventually star in nine more Hollywood musicals together.
Although best known as a dancer, she won her only Oscar in 1941 for her non-dancing role in Kitty Foyle.
Published her autobiography, Ginger: My Story, in 1991.
