Gene Hackman Fast Facts:

After his parents divorced, he was raised in Danville, IL by his grandmother.
Served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1947-52, and was stationed in China, Japan and Hawaii.
Studied acting at the Pasadena Playhouse in California.
Lived with Dustin Hoffman while they were both struggling actors.
Had surgery for heart problems in 1990, leading to a two-year hiatus from films.
