  • First professional acting job was in a Pepsi commercial.
  • Worked as a stunt tester for TV's Beat the Clock in 1950.
  • Drove competitively in professional car races.
  • Received his only two Academy Award nominations after he died for his work in 1955's East of Eden — the first posthumous acting nomination in Oscar history — and 1956's Giant. 
  • Although he's remembered as an iconic movie star, he only made three films: the aforementioned East of Eden and Giant, and his breakthrough role in Rebel Without a Cause. The rest of his work was on television.
  • Died in fiery car crash on September 30, 1955. He was 24.
  • Was pictured on a postage stamp in 1996.
