Jane Fonda Fast Facts:
  • Was told her mother, who committed suicide, died of heart failure. Learned the truth while reading a movie magazine in a high-school art class.
  • Turned down the role of Chris MacNeil in The Exorcist (1973).
  • Nicknamed "Hanoi Jane" for her controversial trip to North Vietnam in 1972, where she was photographed sitting on an enemy aircraft gun. Expressed regret for the photos in a 2005 interview on 60 Minutes.
  • She and her famous father, Henry Fonda, appeared in just one film together, 1981's On Golden Pond and he won his only Oscar for his role. Due to his ill health, she accepted the statuette on his behalf. It turned out to be his last movie.
  • Received an honorary degree from Emerson College in May 2000.
  • Published her autobiography, My Life So Far, in 2005.
