Julie Andrews Fast Facts:
  • Played the title role in 1957's Cinderella, the only musical Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein wrote for TV.
  • Made her Broadway debut in The Boy Friend in 1954.
  • Although she originated the part of Eliza Dolittle in My Fair Lady on Broadway in 1956, Audrey Hepburn played the role in the 1964 film. At the Academy Awards, Andrews won Best Actress for her film debut as Mary Poppins while Hepburn wasn't even nominated. 
  • As the only person involved with the Broadway production of Victor/Victoria to be nominated for a Tony, she declined the honor because she felt the others were "egregiously overlooked."
  • Has written a number of children's books, many with daughter Emma.
  • Named a Dame Commander, Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II on December 31, 1999.
  • Underwent throat surgery in 1998, which Andrews claims ruined her singing voice.
