Justine Bateman Fast Facts:
  • Appeared in a spate of theatrical productions starting when she was 11 years old.
  • Bitten by the acting bug when younger brother Jason joined the cast of Little House on the Prairie during the show's final season; signed with her brother's agency and landed roles in commercials at the age of 15.
  • Originally read for a small role on the then-proposed pilot of the sitcom Family Ties. Was asked to audition for the part of underachiever Mallory Keaton, which she ultimately landed, marking the beginning of her seven-year stint on the popular sitcom.
  • Garnered a Young Artist Award nomination in 1984 for her work on Family Ties.
  • Forayed into professional theater in 1984 in the drama Journey to the Day as Katherine, a suicidal woman in a mental institution (Jason Bateman was in the cast; and her father Kent Bateman served as director of the play, while her mom handled the behind-the-scenes duties). 
  • Received two Emmy nods for her work on Family Ties during the show's 1985-'86 and 1986-'87 seasons.
  • Served as production consultant and host of the 1986 video for teens, entitled How Can I Tell If I'm Really In Love?, alongside Ted Danson and her brother; her father directed the video.
  • Garnered much praise for her work as a blind woman eager to break free of her overprotective family in the 1986 NBC movie Can You Feel Me Dancing?. Her father was the supervising producer; brother Jason played her sibling.
