Karen Allen Fast Facts:

Cocreator and codirector of the Washington Project for the Arts' theater program.
Although she was considered for the role of Princess Leia in 1977's Star Wars, she came to fame as the female lead in the 1981 blockbuster Raiders of the Lost Ark.
In 1978, she was stricken with temporary blindness from Keratoconjunctivitis. Four years later, she made her Broadway debut playing the deaf, dumb and blind Helen Keller in Monday Before the Miracle.
First major film role was in 1978's National Lampoon's Animal House.
An accomplished singer, songwriter and musician, Allen once played in a band with Kathleen Turner and recorded a duet with Jeff Bridges for the Starman (1985) soundtrack.
She and her ex-husband, Kale Browne, played spouses in 1990 TV-movie Challenger and 1997's 'Til There Was You.
Designs and knits sweaters, hats and scarves for Imagine, her own clothing label.
