Later started the Jerry P. Worsham Scholarship Fund in his honor to assist underprivileged theater students with college.
In his senior year of high school, won Best Actor in the University Interscholastic League competition for his role of Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream; this earned him a scholarship to the University of Texas.
Met his wife while helping a friend move into an apartment; they were married in Costa Rica.
