  • His single foray into film directing was an impressive one: the critically acclaimed The Night of the Hunter (1955).
  • His wife, Elsa Lanchester, appeared with him in a number of films, playing Anne of Cleves to his Oscar-winning monarch in The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933) and earning her own Academy Award nomination for her supporting role in Witness for the Prosecution (1957).
