LeVar Burton Fast Facts:

At 13, he decided to become a priest and studied for four years in a Catholic seminary.
While a college sophomore, he landed the pivotal role — his TV debut — of Kunta Kinte in the landmark '70s miniseries Roots.
For over two decades, served as host and co-executive producer of PBS' Daytime Emmy-winning children's series Reading Rainbow, which earned Burton five NAACP Image Awards.
Made his TV directorial debut with "The Pegasus," a 1993 episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, on which Burton played beloved character Geordi La Forge.
Published the sci-fi novel Aftermath in 1997.
