Jon Lovitz Fast Facts:
  • Performed in high-school plays but credits the University of California at Irvine for providing him with his first real acting training.
  • In 1982, he joined the Los Angeles Groundlings, where he ended up meeting Phil Hartman.
  • Joined Saturday Night Live in 1984. Former Groundling and SNL alum Larraine Newman recommended him for the job.
  • Persuaded SNL producer Lorne Michaels to hire Hartman.
  • Made movie debut in the 1986 comedy Last Resort.
  • Sang in the choir in the "Voices That Care" video.
  • According to Lovitz, he and fellow SNL member Dana Carvey were originally considered for the leads in the 1995 action flick Bad Boys, but director Michael Bay ended up going in another direction.
  • Played a "stoned guy named Steve" twice on Friends, but they were not the same character.
