Luc Besson Fast Facts:

Although he initially aspired to be a marine biologist, at age 17 he suffered a serious accident and was told he could never dive again.
Made his directing debut in 1983 with the sci-fi movie Le Dernier Combat (The Final Combat), which was silent and shot in black and white.
Won Best Director at France's César Awards for 1997's The Fifth Element.
