  • Trained for the stage at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (1977-79), where she studied alongside Daniel Day-Lewis.   
  • Has appeared in many repertory stage productions in England, including Educating Rita, All My Sons and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? 
  • Her breakthrough performance came in 1985 as Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be executed in England, in Mike Newell's Dance With a Stranger. 
  • Turned down the Glenn Close role in Fatal Attraction (1987).
