Neil Jordan Fast Facts:
  • Played saxophone and banjo in a group called Eilis.
  • Founded the Irish Writers' Cooperative in 1974 and went on to publish several books, including the short-story collection Night in Tunisia (1976), and the novels The Past (1980) and The Dreams of the Beast (1983).
  • Made his directing debut in 1982 with the thriller Angel, which also marked his first collaboration with fellow countryman actor Stephen Rea. They went on to work together on numerous films, including The Company of Wolves (1984), The Crying Game (1992), Interview with the Vampire (1994), Michael Collins (1996), The Butcher Boy (1997), In Dreams (1999), The End of the Affair (1999) and Breakfast on Pluto (2005).
  • Biggest box-office success was the 1994 Anne Rice adaptation Interview, which grossed more than $200 million worldwide.
  • The London Film Critics Awards recognized him as Director of the Year in 1984 for The Company of Wolves, and British Director of the Year and British Screenwriter of the Year in 1992 for The Crying Game.
