  • Broke into television as a writer for the DuMont Network's Cavalcade of Stars in 1949.
  • The Odd Couple was based on the experiences of his older brother, Danny Simon, a TV-comedy writer. Danny originally started writing the play, but asked Neil to take over.
  • During the 1966-67 season, he had four shows running simultaneously on Broadway: the plays Barefoot in the Park, The Odd Couple and The Star-Spangled Girl and the musical Sweet Charity.
  • Won a 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Lost in Yonkers.
  • Received Kennedy Center Honors Award in 1995 and the Mark Twain Prize in 2006.
