Laurence Olivier Fast Facts:

First appeared on stage at age 9 as Brutus in a school production of Julius Caesar.
Was a lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during World War II.
Knighted in 1947. In 1970, he became the first actor to be elevated to peerage, "Baron Olivier of Brighton," which made him a member of the House of Lords.
Beginning in 1964, he was struck with severe stage fright for five years.
Published an autobiography, Confessions of an Actor, in 1984.
