Paul Thomas Anderson Fast Facts:

Father was voice-over actor Ernie Anderson, best known for narrating The Love Boat (ABC, 1977-86).
Father gave him a Betamax camera when he was 12; he and his friends used it to make amateur films.
As a child, engaged his friends in a pie-making contest and filmed it. The resulting pies were so bad they ended up having the family's Shetland pony sample them.
Made The Dirk Diggler Story, the forerunner to Boogie Nights, when he was a senior in high school.
Attended NYU film school for only two days; dropped out because one professor panned Terminator 2, while another gave him a C on an assignment he copied from a David Mamet work.
Once worked as a production assistant on a children's game show called Quiz Kid Challenge.
First gained attention with the short film Cigarettes & Coffee, which was screened at the Sundance Film Festival in 1993.
