One of a handful of people — and only the second woman — to win all four major American entertainment awards: Oscar (West Side Story), Emmy (for guest appearances on The Muppet Show and The Rockford Files), Tony (The Ritz), and Grammy (The Electric Company).
Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush in 2004.
Has received accolades from the National Osteoporosis Foundation for her work to increase osteoporosis awareness.
