Left school at the age of 15 to become a circus clown.
Worked briefly in a fish-and-chips shop and shoe factory.
Made stage debut as Alistair Graham in The Killing of Mr. Toad in 1983.
Gained international attention as Freddy, the younger brother of Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham Carter) in the film A Room with a View in 1986.
Appeared in the 1999 Broadway production of Closer as Dan, opposite Anna Friel, Natasha Richardson and Ciarán Hinds.
