Susan Sarandon Fast Facts:

Began career as a model for the Ford Agency.
In 1970, she accompanied then-husband Chris Sarandon to his audition for the film Joe. He didn't land a part but she did.
Made Broadway debut as Tricia Nixon in Gore Vidal's An Evening with Richard Nixon (1972).
While presenting at the 1993 Academy Awards, she spoke out about the plight of HIV-positive Haitian refugees incarcerated at Guantanamo Bay; her comments drew some negative press.
Received the Amnesty International USA Media Spotlight Award for Leadership and was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1999.
Volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and hunger-relief organizations in New York City.
