  • Was a 4-H Club member, a cheerleader, a majorette and homecoming queen, but was turned down for the senior-class play.
  • In 1968 under the name Rainbo, she recorded the single "John, You've Gone Too Far This Time," which gently chided John Lennon for appearing nude on the album cover Two Virgins.
  • Her breakthrough movie was 1973's Badlands. She met her husband, Jack Fisk, during filming.
  • Won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and six other industry awards for her portrayal of Loretta Lynn in 1980's Coal Miner's Daughter; she also did all her own singing in the film.
