Terry Gilliam Fast Facts:
The only non-British member of Monty Python, and created the animation for all of their projects.
While directing the 1985 classic
Brazil
, he clashed with movie producers and execs over the film's length and tone. When he won Best Director and Best Screenplay (with Tom Stoppard and Charles McKeown) at the 1985 Los Angeles Film Critics Awards, the studio was forced to release the movie more or less as Gilliam had intended.
His 1991 drama
The Fisher King
was nominated for several Oscars, including Best Screenplay.
