Robert Urich Fast Facts:

Received a football scholarship from Florida State University but his athletic career was sidelined by a head injury.
Was discovered by fellow FSU graduate Burt Reynolds who helped Urich land a role as his younger brother in a stage production of The Rainmaker in 1972.
Met wife Heather Menzies on the set of a Libby's corned beef hash commercial in 1974 (she played Louisa von Trapp in the 1965 film The Sound of Music).
Was diagnosed with cancer in 1996; sued Castle Rock TV in 2000, claiming The Lazarus Man was canceled because of his illness. The suit was settled out of court.
Became spokesperson for the American Cancer Society in 1998.
