Vanessa Redgrave Fast Facts:

On the night of her birth, Laurence Olivier, who was appearing with her father Michael in a production of Hamlet, announced from the Old Vic Theatre stage, "Tonight, a great actress has been born."
Made both her film debut (in the 1958 British medical drama Behind the Mask) and London stage debut (in A Touch of the Sun) playing the daughter of her father's character.
Joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1960, acting alongside Diana Rigg and Judi Dench.
Earned the first of several Oscar nominations for the 1966 dramedy Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment; her competition included her sister, Lynn, who was nominated for Georgy Girl.
Appeared with her mother, Rachel Kempson, brother Corin and daughters Natasha and Joely in her ex-husband Tony Richardson's 1968 remake of The Charge of the Light Brigade
Ran for the British Parliament as a member of the Workers Revolutionary Party in 1974 and '79 and, with Corin, launched Britain's Peace and Progress party in 2004.
Won her first Emmy Award for her U.S. TV debut, the 1980 CBS Holocaust drama Playing for Time.
Released a career-spanning memoir, Vanessa Redgrave: An Autobiography, in 1994.
